This is one of the last things I would ever want to do. I am at my wits end here though and don’t know what to do. Back on July 4th I was injured in an ATV accident. My leg was broken into 26 pieces. I have already been through surgery 6 times since. I still cannot bear weight on my leg. After the second surgery. I got an infection. They placed some rods and a battery operated contraption with wires coming off of it to stimulate bone growth and they fused my ankle together. Which means no matter what I would never be able to move my ankle again. Well the infection is deep inside my leg where the rods are. Since the infection seems to be “sticking” to the metal, the infection came back and even if it looks to be gone. Through more PIC line antibiotics I am told it will probably keep coming back. I had a PIC line for 7 weeks with antibiotics going into it. For those of you who do not know what a PIC line is I’ll explain. It’s basically an IV that they don’t have to move all of the time. It runs into your arm and down into your chest. Anyway that aside. After speaking to several surgeons at different hospitals. I have decided to have it amputated. I spoke to a few other amputees who went through almost the same thing. One of them did almost the same thing, went through 3 years of trying to save his leg, and he had to have it amputated anyway. They said they could try to remove the hardware and I would basically be starting over again with no guarantee that the same thing would not just happen again.

Here is what it boils down to. I can’t work right now, or even go to school like I have been. I was getting a few extra thousand dollars every 3 months to help me live off of by going to school via student loans. I have sold EVERYTHING I can think of with the acception of my computer. I even E-bayed some of of the computer parts I really really wanted to keep.

 

As of right now my prescriptions alone are running me $300.00 plus a month. Right now I am on pain medicine that is insane expensive. Oral antibiotics that I need to take until I have the surgery on January 6th. I don’t have prescription insurance, but thank god I have medical insurance. My hospital bills are now up over $300,000.00. My insurance pays for a lot of that, but not all of it. I still have about $4000.00 in hospital bills that I need to pay out of my pocket. I have a son who depends on me. I already got rid of my car, and I have no idea what to do about him for Christmas.

 

What I am very reluctantly asking for is a little help. If anyone can donate towards medical bills and prescriptions I will have to take until my surgery, and probably plenty of things that will cost enough up to and after I get a prosthetic.
